B.C. Man Arrested After Driving Pink Barbie Toy Car During Morning Commute

Police cite B.C. rules treating motorized toys as vehicles, with the case now set for a December court date.

Overview

  • Prince George RCMP stopped the driver around 9 a.m. on Sept. 5 on 15th Avenue, where two roadside breath tests registered over the legal limit, police said.
  • The driver, identified as Kasper Lincoln, had a suspended licence and was arrested for prohibited driving and issued a 90-day driving prohibition.
  • Lincoln said he borrowed his roommate’s child’s Power Wheels Jeep to get a Slurpee, claimed he did not know he was breaking the law, and plans to dispute the case.
  • RCMP said the toy car’s low profile on a busy roadway created a safety risk as motorists were not expecting such a vehicle and had to maneuver around it.
  • Lawyers and police note B.C. treats motorized devices on public roads as motor vehicles requiring a licence and insurance, and police returned the toy to the child rather than impounding it.
