B.C. Election Outcome Delayed Due to Recounts and Mail-In Ballots

Final results for British Columbia's tight provincial election are pending recounts in key ridings and the counting of 65,000 mail-in ballots.

  • The recounts in Surrey City Centre and Juan De Fuca-Malahat, where the NDP leads by narrow margins, will begin on Sunday and conclude by Monday.
  • Neither the NDP nor the Conservatives have secured the 47 seats needed for a majority, with the NDP leading or elected in 46 seats and the Conservatives in 45.
  • The B.C. Green Party, holding two seats, could play a pivotal role in supporting a minority government if neither major party achieves a majority.
  • Elections BC has identified 65,000 mail-in ballots, a third more than initially estimated, which will be counted over the weekend.
  • A partial manual recount is also scheduled in Kelowna Centre due to a one-vote discrepancy, although the margin there is wider than in the other two ridings.
