BBMB Cuts Pong Releases to About 65,000 Cusecs as Level Nears Limit

BBMB is trimming releases under rule‑curve guidance following an IMD outlook for a dry week.

As per the data released by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), the current water level in the Pong dam is 1,391.33 feet, which was above 1,394 feet last week.

  • Pong stood at 1,391.33 feet on Monday, about 1.3 feet above its prescribed 1,390‑foot limit, with 35,439 cusecs inflow and 65,003 cusecs released downstream.
  • Outflow from Pong had been near 100,000 cusecs over the weekend and was reduced to around 70,000 cusecs by Monday morning before easing further.
  • Bhakra’s level was 1,677.39 feet, below the 1,680‑foot top mark, with an inflow of 55,338 cusecs and 65,000 cusecs released for power generation.
  • Ranjit Sagar (Thein) measured 524.55 metres, with 19,782 cusecs entering the reservoir and 29,298 cusecs discharged into the Ravi.
  • Officials cite the absence of a heavy‑rain forecast over the next seven days and note that BBMB is setting releases using rule curves after an exceptional monsoon that delivered surplus rainfall and record inflows at Pong.
