BBC Unveils Doctor Who Animated Series for CBeebies Pre-Schoolers

Overview

  • The BBC announced plans on June 12 to launch an animated Doctor Who series for pre-school audiences on CBeebies.
  • The spin-off will run independently of the live-action show with 26 episodes in 2027/28 and another 26 in 2028/29.
  • The BBC is seeking a production company to develop and produce the series under BBC Studios distribution, with no participation from Disney.
  • The preschool format will feature the Doctor solving mysteries in a non-threatening style alongside a range of friendly companions.
  • The main live-action series has no confirmed renewal after Ncuti Gatwa’s departure in May and another spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, is in development.
