BBC Studios Germany to Produce 'Let’s Dance' From 2028

The move signals BBC Studios' push to bring global formats in-house as it builds local production capacity in Germany.

Overview

  • BBC Studios Germany announced that it will take over production of the German show Let’s Dance from 2028, and that its partnership with long-time producer Seapoint Productions will end after Season 20 in summer 2027.
  • The company named Phil Schmid and Markus Templin as the producers who will run the BBC-produced German edition starting in 2028.
  • Hosts and jurors are contractually employed by RTL and are reported not to be affected by the change, so on-screen continuity is expected to remain for viewers.
  • Seapoint’s staff were briefed on set about the handover, and while some team members could move to BBC Studios Germany, future staffing and day-to-day production arrangements are still unresolved.
  • The decision follows a wider BBC Studios strategy of reclaiming licensed formats once it has local infrastructure, and Seapoint says it will redeploy its production resources to other projects after the handover.
