Overview
- Antonio Lobato said Wednesday on SoyMotor’s Twitch channel that the BBC invited him to appear in a documentary about the 2007 season and that he declined to take part.
- No formal BBC announcement or release date has been issued and reporting describes the project as being in early, unconfirmed stages.
- The 2007 season featured a bitter intra-team fight at McLaren between Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso and ended with Kimi Räikkönen winning the drivers’ title by one point.
- Lobato told reporters he refused because his own memories were shaped by the intense feelings of that year and he wants to see how the story is reconstructed before engaging.
- Any BBC film will likely revisit the ‘Spygate’ episode in which a McLaren engineer held a Ferrari dossier and the team lost its Constructors’ points, a controversy that could drive renewed public debate over the season.
