BBC Greenlights Hugo Blick Drama California Avenue With Nighy, Bonham Carter, Doherty and Burke

The series heads to Hertfordshire for production this summer ahead of its BBC One and iPlayer debut

Overview

  • California Avenue unfolds across six 60-minute episodes set in a 1970s canal-side caravan park where a single mother and her child seek refuge.
  • Erin Doherty leads as Lela, joined by Bill Nighy and Helena Bonham Carter as her parents Jerry and Eddie, with Tom Burke cast as showman outsider Cooper.
  • Written and directed by Hugo Blick, the drama is produced by Drama Republic in partnership with Eight Rooks, following their work on The English and The Honourable Woman.
  • Production will take place in and around Hertfordshire later this summer, with no official release date announced.
  • Promoted as a story brimming with humour and love, the series explores themes of family, redemption and unexpected romance in the English countryside.
