Overview
- The BBC filed a motion in Miami federal court on Oct. 13 asking Magistrate Judge Enjolique Lett to order President Trump to pick a date and location for his deposition and to appear.
- Trump’s lawyers canceled a previously agreed Oct. 16 deposition in a Sept. 28 filing that said he was unavailable because of “matters of national importance.”
- After months of discovery and seven depositions of BBC witnesses, the network says it still cannot serve the formal federal notice it needs because Trump has not given a specific date or place.
- Trump’s team has proposed the second or third week of January 2027 only if the parties extend discovery, while discovery is currently set to close Dec. 18 and the court will address scheduling at an Oct. 22 hearing.
- The suit seeks roughly $10 billion over a Panorama segment and the BBC is pushing to dismiss it for lack of U.S. jurisdiction, a fight that has already produced court orders releasing some of Trump’s financial and investigative records.
