BBC Accused of Oxbridge Bias in University Challenge

Emeritus Professor Frank Coffield calls for public debate, BBC denies allegations

Frank Coffield, emeritus professor of education, has challenged the BBC to a public debate over the alleged Oxbridge bias of University Challenge.
Coffield has accused the BBC of rigging the quiz in favor of Oxford and Cambridge colleges, claiming that a quarter of the teams and nine of the 12 winners of the Christmas specials since 2011 have been from these universities.
He has urged the BBC to disclose the full details of all entrants in the 61-year history of the show, which he believes breaches BBC rules on impartiality.
The BBC has rejected these allegations, stating that the University Challenge Alumni series has set out to reflect the UK's graduate population and has represented a wide range of universities in each series.
Earlier this month, the BBC was forced to pull one of its Christmas special episodes after complaints about a lack of provision for contestants with disabilities.
