Overview

  • On June 20, salvage teams used a floating crane to lift the 56-metre Bayesian from 50 metres below the sea near Porticello after securing slings and harnesses over three days.
  • The yacht’s 72-metre mast was detached with a remote-operated cutting tool and left on the seabed for later recovery to facilitate the hull’s upright positioning.
  • A diver’s death in May during preliminary operations led to a suspension of manned dives and prompted greater reliance on remote-controlled equipment.
  • The fully resurfaced hull will be transported to Termini Imerese for forensic analysis including stability assessments and inspection of watertight hatches.
  • Italian prosecutors have launched a suspected manslaughter inquiry targeting the captain and two British crew after interim findings cited extreme wind and an undisclosed vulnerability that capsized the vessel.
