Bayer Leverkusen, guided by coach Xabi Alonso, returned to the top of the Bundesliga table after a 2-1 victory over SC Freiburg, extending their winning streak to eight matches in all competitions.
Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz played a pivotal role in the victory, scoring one goal and setting up another with impressive dribbling skills, which included a run down the left flank that resulted in a goal for Jonas Hofmann.
Despite a roller-coaster affair at the Deutsche Bank Park, Borussia Dortmund managed to maintain their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Frankfurt's Omar Marmoush was on target, scoring twice including a penalty, but it was Dortmund's Julian Brandt who rescued a point for his team with a late goal in the 82nd minute, thus ending Dortmund's five-match winning run.
The draw left Dortmund in fourth place, two points off league leaders Bayern Munich, while Leverkusen's triumph gave them a two-point lead over Bayern at the top spot.
