Bay Depression Makes Landfall in Odisha as IMD Warns of Northwest Storm Next Week

  • Kolkata saw rain-disrupted Vijaya Dashami and temporary waterlogging as the IMD forecast heavy to very heavy rain across coastal and south Bengal and the sub-Himalayan districts through the weekend.
  • Fishermen were advised to stay off the Odisha–West Bengal coasts, ports hoisted Local Cautionary Signal No-III, and squally winds of 45–65 km/h with higher gusts were flagged during peak conditions.
  • A fresh western disturbance is forecast for Oct 4–7 with heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail across Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh, with peak intensity around Oct 6 and some districts under red alerts.
