Bay Area Transit Fares and Golden Gate Bridge Tolls Increase July 1

These hikes are designed to cover a $220 million shortfall over five years with scheduled annual increases through 2028

Overview

  • As of July 1, Caltrain, AC Transit, Muni, San Francisco Bay Ferry and the Golden Gate Bridge District have raised fares and tolls to shore up transit funding
  • Caltrain and AC Transit adult fares rose by $0.25, Muni single-ride prices increased by $0.10 and Bay Ferry trips climbed by up to 3%
  • Golden Gate Bridge tolls increased by $0.50 to $10.00 for Pay-As-You-Go users and $9.75 with FasTrak, with higher rates for carpools and multi-axle vehicles
  • Officials project that the price hikes will help close a $220 million budget gap over five years and fund critical bridge maintenance
  • A framework of annual toll increases through 2028 is in place and discount fare programs for low-income, senior, youth and disabled riders will be retained
