Overview

  • The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued an advisory in effect Monday and Tuesday as smoke drifts in from Canadian wildfires.
  • Active fires in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have forced over 25,000 evacuations and sent haze into Northern California.
  • Officials warn that fine particulate matter in the smoke can irritate eyes and airways, cause coughing and trigger asthma or COPD flare-ups.
  • Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed, use indoor air filtration or visit clean air centers to reduce inhalation of pollutants.
  • Pollutant levels remain below thresholds for a Spare the Air alert and real-time smoke data can be tracked on the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map.
