Bavaria’s Tourism Grows Modestly with Camping Boom and Holiday-Driven June Uptick

Domestic travel outpacing international demand underpinned Bavaria’s modest gains in arrivals and overnight stays.

  • Bavaria recorded 18.27 million guest arrivals in the first half of 2025, a 1.7 percent increase, and nearly 46.1 million overnight stays, up 0.8 percent year-on-year.
  • Camping holidays led growth with arrivals rising 11.4 percent to about 1.15 million and overnight stays climbing 12.6 percent to roughly 3.4 million.
  • Oberbayern remained the most visited region with around 8.7 million arrivals, including over four million in Munich.
  • June figures topped last year’s levels by 2.8 percent in arrivals and 5.6 percent in overnight stays, buoyed by a 9.4 percent jump in domestic bookings during the Pentecost holidays.
  • Domestic arrivals grew 1.9 percent and overnight stays 1.0 percent in the first half, while international arrivals edged up 1.1 percent and overnight stays dipped 0.1 percent.
