Bavarian Local Elections 2026: Parties Finalize Slates as CSU Mounts County Push

Fresh nominations give voters a clear view of candidates heading into the March 8 vote.

Overview

  • CSU in Bad Tölz–Wolfratshausen unveiled a 60-person Kreistag list led by Landrat candidate Thomas Holz, with the stated goals of remaining the strongest force in the council and reclaiming the district chief post.
  • In Bad Heilbrunn, the CSU unanimously re-nominated incumbent Thomas Gründl for a fourth term, as he highlighted central-area redevelopment, new housing and kindergarten capacity, and claimed land deals have left the municipality with assets valued at more than €28 million.
  • Wählergemeinschaft Wolfersdorf selected Harald Gmeiner as its mayoral candidate by 106 votes to 1 with 5 abstentions, emphasizing village development, rapid housing creation, and attention to farming interests while keeping partisan politics out of the council.
  • The Penzberg Greens placed Kerstin Engel at the top of their council list under the party’s women’s statute, even as Wolfgang Schweiger runs for mayor, and candidates stressed safer routes for cyclists and pedestrians as a priority.
  • Additional slates were set across the region, including SPD Bad Tölz naming Michael Ernst for mayor, CSU lists in Peiting and Hohenfurch, a women-led Ortsliste in Gaden, and a CSU–citizens’ block in Eurasburg, while Polling and Sottrum held ceremonies honoring long-serving volunteers.
