Bavarian Doctor Charged Over 6,000 Fake House Calls in Alleged €1.6 Million Billing Fraud

A KVB complaint prompted an anti-fraud probe that now targets recovery of alleged proceeds.

Overview

  • The Generalstaatsanwaltschaft Nürnberg filed an indictment on September 22 alleging fraud in 13 cases tied to out-of-hours billing.
  • Prosecutors say the physician claimed roughly 6,000 house visits he did not make and later billed in-person services after about 600 telephone consultations.
  • The alleged conduct occurred from the third quarter of 2021 to the third quarter of 2024 and caused losses of at least €1.6 million.
  • The suspect has been in pretrial detention since March 2025, and the case now proceeds to the criminal courts.
  • The ZKG is pursuing seizure of the alleged proceeds after the KVB flagged billing anomalies and filed a complaint.
