Bavaria to Start Returning Waste Illegally Dumped in Czech Republic on Sept. 8

Bavaria is enforcing a take-back under Ersatzvornahme due to the exporter’s insolvency.

Overview

  • The Government of the Upper Palatinate says initial cross-border notifications are complete, clearing the way for transports to begin next Monday.
  • More than 300 tonnes are slated for return, including carbon-fiber composites (CFK) and parts of lithium-ion batteries.
  • A temporary loading site is being set up this week in Jiříkov, with on-site sorting and stepwise shipments following a defined loading plan.
  • Sorted material will go to German treatment facilities in states such as North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Brandenburg and Bavaria for recovery or disposal.
  • Prosecutors in Weiden continue investigating alleged unauthorized exports and misclassification; the company’s managing director and a 56-year-old Czech driver are in pretrial detention.
