• A hiker reported a brown bear near the Sondersberg above the Winklmoosalm in Traunstein district on August 16.
• Specialists from the Netzwerk Große Beutegreifer documented a rub site and footprints and forwarded photos and hair samples to the state environment office.
• The Landesamt für Umwelt says there are no photos or videos of the animal and a follow-up search found no unequivocal evidence.
• Hair found near the site has been sent to the Senckenberg Institute for Wildlife Genetics for analysis, with results expected next week.
• The Bavarian State Forests and local farmers have been notified as officials maintain monitoring, amid renewed concern from alpine farmers and politicians, and with the last confirmed bear in Bavaria dating to 2023.
