Overview
- Local authorities have enforced traffic orders that ban diversion from the A8 and A93 onto side roads on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays to keep through-traffic off village streets.
- Police announced large, hotspot-focused controls along the A8 and A93 and will be supported by additional Bavarian Bereitschaftspolizei personnel for the operations.
- Officers will stop drivers who attempt unauthorized detours, redirect them back to the Autobahn and issue a minimum Verwarnungsgeld of €55 for violations.
- Police say the rule has been actively applied since its introduction and that several thousand motorists have already been intercepted and sent back to the Autobahn.
- Authorities say the measures aim to cut noise and congestion for residents and to protect local road networks, but travelers with legitimate local destinations remain exempt from the ban.
