Overview
- The film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, has been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification without cuts as the team begins final promotional events this week.
- Batwara 1947 is adapted from Asghar Wajahat’s play and tells a family-focused story set in Lahore during the 1947 Partition that centres a mother figure as the emotional core.
- Sunny Deol leads the cast as a man who protects an elderly Hindu woman in his Lahore home, with Preity Zinta returning to films after an eight-year break and Shabana Azmi in a key role.
- The project reunites Santoshi and Sunny Deol after decades and carries high-profile creative credits, including music by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
- With a August 14 theatrical release confirmed, expect the promotional push to emphasise the film’s humanist approach and to test how a neutral cross‑border portrayal is received by audiences and critics.
