Battlefield Redsec Debuts Free-to-Play as Steam Reviews Skew Negative Over Weeklies and No Solos

Early negative reviews mainly reflect Battlefield 6 players protesting weekly challenges that require Redsec.

Overview

  • EA launched Redsec on October 28 as a standalone free-to-play battle royale on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox, with Battlefield 6 owners able to access it via an update.
  • Redsec’s Steam page showed an early “Mostly Negative” trend, with 5,219 reviews and just over 3,000 not recommending the game at the time of Dexerto’s reporting.
  • Polygon reports that many negative reviews come from Battlefield 6 players who say Season 1 weekly challenges push them into Redsec to progress the battle pass.
  • At launch the mode offers Duos and Quads only, with no Solo playlist, leading to complaints about being matched with random teammates against premade squads.
  • Redsec includes cross-play, the Fort Lyndon map with vehicles and destruction, Portal support, and the new Gauntlet mode, a 32-player, four-round objective format for squads of four that has drawn praise for its pacing.
