Battlefield 6 Revives Portal With Web Editor, Deeper Map Editing, and XP-Enabled Community Modes

EA is betting on user‑made experiences to drive ongoing play.

Overview

  • The browser-based creation suite runs on the open-source Godot engine and exposes over 100 tunables, including player counts, spawn rates, health and damage sliders, and vehicle or weapon restrictions.
  • At launch, creators can move map geometry, buildings, spawn points, and team HQs, with options for custom UI, AI behavior scripting for co-op, and bespoke scoreboards.
  • Portal servers will persist in the server browser even when empty, and custom games contribute to player progression through XP.
  • Battlefield Studios highlighted example creations such as the vertical climbing contest Top of the World and the wave-survival mode Holdout to showcase the toolset.
  • A post-launch 'blank slate' map is planned for builders, while subtractive editing remains only under consideration; Battlefield 6 releases October 10 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
