Overview

• Police say a verbal dispute between people in a vehicle and two students on foot escalated into gunfire just before 3 p.m. on Sept. 8 near the campus.
• The student who was struck was not part of the confrontation, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and was treated and released.
• Battle Creek Central, BC STEM, and Ann J. Kellogg Elementary went into lockdown, with an on-site school resource officer responding as additional police secured the area.
• Two students involved in the altercation have been removed from school pending the investigation as the district adds patrols during dismissal and expands counseling supports with Summit Pointe and Grace Health.
