Overview
- Up to 500 people who stayed in eight cabins between May and late July are being traced across 38 states and seven countries.
- The eight affected cabins—516, 518, 520, 522, 524, 526, 528 and 530—have been shut since July 27 with nonlethal exclusion devices installed.
- Several bats tested negative for rabies and one could not be tested, but most of the suspected colony was never sampled.
- The Wyoming Department of Health and the CDC are coordinating individualized risk assessments and recommending post-exposure prophylaxis for high-risk cases.
- Children and deep sleepers are considered higher risk if a bat was present, and officials say visitors outside these cabins, including those attending the Federal Reserve’s Jackson Hole economic symposium, are not considered at risk.
