Basque Regions Unveil European Heritage Days Lineups Focused on Architecture

Local programs highlight architectural heritage with free visits, workshops, exhibitions.

  • Gipuzkoa’s 10th edition features 120 activities across 37 municipalities from September 27, presented at the Diputación with contributions from more than 62 organizing agents.
  • Duranguesado in Bizkaia marks the project’s 25th anniversary with over 250 free proposals in October, including eight Euskera-guided visits from October 4 to 26 coordinated by the Gerediaga association.
  • Navarra’s program runs September 26 to October 5 through the Dirección General de Cultura – Institución Príncipe de Viana, as part of the Council of Europe initiative with EU collaboration.
  • Urdazubi-Urdax offers a monastery museum tour and access to the Alkerdi cave engravings dated to roughly 12,000 years, with guidance to bring mountain footwear, a flashlight and a helmet.
  • Highlighted sites and themes include Zabalaga–Chillida Leku, the Zarauz and Aldamar palaces, San Telmo Museum and Eresbil’s repurposed industrial site, alongside talks on urban identity and caserío heritage.
