Overview

  • The Basque Government has committed €153 million through 2028 to build quantum infrastructure, including a five-story Ibaeta Quantum Pole in San Sebastián
  • IBM Quantum System Two, featuring 156 qubits housed in a modular cryostat design, will be installed between October and December 2025
  • Its expandable architecture is designed to integrate future upgrades and remain compatible with IBM’s forthcoming Starling supercomputer
  • Donostia’s emerging “quantum mile” will link the new hub with DIPC, Nanogune and other research centers to foster a local quantum ecosystem
  • IBM plans to deploy Quantum Starling—a fault-tolerant machine targeting 200 logical qubits and error correction—by 2029 to advance reliable quantum computing
