• Justice and Human Rights minister María Jesús San José asked forgiveness for “four decades of institutional absence and social silence” toward the families of the four people killed in the 1985 Hotel Monbar attack.
• The apology was delivered in San Sebastián during the inauguration of Gogora’s exhibition “Hotel Monbar, 1985,” which centers victims’ testimonies and the demand for truth and recognition.
• San José condemned actions carried out outside the rule of law, saying state mechanisms were used to finance and sustain a terrorist organization, and rejected past statements that glorified such abuses.
• The opening drew cross‑party attendance from EH Bildu to the PP and included about 23 relatives of the victims, along with Basque government officials and local representatives.
• The exhibit features 13 panels with archival documents, press material, and photographs including work by Daniel Vélez, and it is open at the Ernest Lluch cultural center through October 20 with a public colloquium scheduled for October 7.
