Overview
- The IBM-Euskadi Quantum Computational Center in Donostia-San Sebastián deployed an IBM Quantum System Two powered by a 156-qubit Heron processor.
- The installation is only the second System Two outside the United States and is engineered for future multi-processor scalability.
- Members of the center now have system access alongside IBM resources to help build Southern Europe’s quantum ecosystem under the BasQ/IKUR 2030 strategy.
- The BasQ–IBM collaboration has already produced results in materials science and high-energy physics, with new efforts targeting materials design, industrial optimization, biomedical simulation, and improved AI algorithms.
- Basque and IBM leaders, including President Imanol Pradales and IBM Research’s Jay Gambetta, inaugurated the system at the Ikerbasque campus with regional officials and academic partners in attendance.
