BASF Raises 2026 Profit Forecast After Strong Third Quarter

The company says Iran war-related supply shocks have strengthened European chemical pricing and helped improve its outlook.

Overview

  • BASF reported a better-than-expected third-quarter operating profit of €1.64 billion and revenue of €16.36 billion, driven by higher prices and volumes.
  • The group lifted its 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance to €7.4–7.8 billion following the stronger quarter.
  • Reported net income attributable to shareholders fell about 10% to €155 million, a decline the company attributes in part to one-off restructuring costs tied to its cost-cutting program.
  • BASF reiterated its free cash flow forecast of €1.5–2.3 billion for the year and said it is continuing a company-wide restructuring that includes job reductions to lower costs.
  • Management linked the improved trading to regional supply disruption from the Iran war that has reduced competition from some Asian producers, and the company has boosted its takeover offer for specialty-chemicals peer Evonik as part of its strategic push.
