Basel Introduces Higher Parking Fees Based on Vehicle Length

Starting January 2025, longer vehicles will face increased parking costs in Basel, while smaller cars and visitors are largely unaffected.

The new policy does not affect visitors, whose daily parking rate remains at 20 Swiss francs, with limited discounted options available online.
The city aims to reduce street parking and encourage the use of underground garages, with a portion of the additional revenue funding sustainable transport projects such as bike paths and public transit systems.
Officials report a trend of increasing vehicle size and weight, with over half of newly registered cars in Basel in 2023 exceeding 1,700 kilograms.
