Barry Humphries’ Personal Collection, Including Dame Edna’s Iconic Glasses, Heads to Auction

The February auction at Christie’s will feature over 250 items, showcasing the late entertainer’s passion for art, literature, and comedy.

Barry Humphries’ personal collection, featuring items from his alter ego Dame Edna Everage, will be auctioned at Christie’s in London on February 13, 2025.
Highlights include Dame Edna’s diamante-encrusted Sydney Opera House glasses, estimated to sell for up to £1,500, and a first edition of Oscar Wilde’s 'The Importance of Being Earnest,' valued at up to £150,000.
The collection also features significant artworks, including Charles Conder’s 'Sand Dunes, Ambleteuse,' expected to fetch up to £300,000, and pieces by Jean Delville and Fernand Khnopff.
Humphries, who passed away in April 2023, was celebrated as a polymath, comedian, and avid collector of art and rare books, owning an estimated 50,000 volumes.
A pre-sale exhibition of the items will be open to the public from February 7 to February 12, offering insights into the private world of the famed performer.
