Barry George, Cleared in Jill Dando Case, Charged With 1987 Rape and Indecent Assaults

The case follows a Met investigation, with specially trained officers supporting the complainant.

Overview

  • CPS London South said the 65-year-old faces one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault arising from non-recent allegations.
  • The alleged offences occurred in west London between 6 and 12 September 1987 and involve two separate incidents reported by a woman now in her 50s.
  • George is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 29 October 2025.
  • The Metropolitan Police stated the charges followed work by a team of detectives, and noted the complainant is receiving specialist support.
  • George was convicted in 2001 of Jill Dando’s 1999 murder but was unanimously acquitted at a 2008 retrial after forensic evidence was questioned, and that unsolved case is separate from the new charges.
