Overview

  • The Workers by Dawn Parsonage opens July 9 as a free outdoor exhibition trail across Barrow venues, marking the launch of the National Lottery Heritage Fund–backed Sankey: Lives Through the Lens project.
  • Inspired by the Sankey Photography Archive’s more than 10,000 industrial and social heritage photographs, the series pairs portraits of modern-day workers with their Edwardian counterparts.
  • Parsonage led photography workshops with residents to explore archival images and inform each portrait, aiming to deepen community ties to Barrow’s past.
  • Concurrently, Nicholas J. R. White’s The Binding Tide exhibition debuts at the Town Hall Courtyard, showcasing coastal and fringe landscapes from Ulverston to South Walney.
  • Both exhibitions run July 10 through August 31 at sites including Barrow Library, Barrow Railway Station, Dandy’s Furniture Store, Cavendish Street ginnel and Barrow Town Hall.
