Barcelona’s L9/L10 To Link North and South in 2031 After TBM Repair, Full Completion Targeted for 2032

Officials fixed the tunnel‑boring machine, which is slated to restart at roughly 130 metres per month to dig the final 1.6 kilometers.

Overview

  • Regional and city leaders unveiled a phased calendar that begins with four L9 Nord stations opening in 2027: La Sagrera TAV, La Sagrera, Plaça de Maragall and Guinardó–Hospital de Sant Pau.
  • The rebuilt cutter head will drive the TBM through hard rock on the Mandri–Lesseps stretch, with about 75 workers operating in two shifts.
  • A 2030 phase foresees Lesseps entering service on the northern branch, while reports differ on when Camp Nou opens on the southern branch, citing either 2030 or 2031.
  • Through service between El Prat Airport and Can Zam is planned for 2031 with the opening of Campus Nord, Sarrià, Mandri and Sanllehy.
  • The last two stations, Manuel Girona and Putxet, are scheduled for 2032, which would cap a project spanning roughly three decades and costing more than €16 billion.
