Barcelona Unveils Christmas Lights Across 126 Kilometres, Spotlighting New Via Laietana

With a 15% budget increase to €3.8 million, the city council tapped designers to energize commerce with new installations

Overview

  • Unveiled on June 20, the holiday scheme covers 126 km of streets and expands the network by 16 km over last year.
  • The renovated Via Laietana will feature 20 luminous arches and 175 floral pixel motifs crafted by Ester Pujol and Marta Cerdà.
  • Artist proposals for Aragó, Gran Via and Plaza Catalunya were chosen through a competition run by the Ayuntamiento and ADI-FAD.
  • Lighting will operate from 17:30 to 1:00 Sunday through Thursday and until 2:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and holiday eves.
  • The council is subsidizing up to 75% of street illumination costs to support local commerce and extend festive displays into outlying districts.
