Overview
- Multiple outlets reported on Wednesday that Barcelona have put 23-year-old Youri Baas on a shortlist of defensive options for the January transfer window.
- Scouts value Baas for his left-footed profile and versatility to play both centre-back and left-back, traits Barcelona see as useful cover for a young backline.
- Baas remains under contract at Ajax until 2028, so any move would require negotiation with Ajax and likely a significant fee.
- Reported interest from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs raises the prospect of competition for Baas, while Barcelona’s strict salary limits mean the club may need departures or lower-cost deals to sign him.
- Barcelona are weighing Baas alongside other targets and a separate search for an experienced centre-back to add leadership, and Ajax’s track record of holding or carefully selling young talent makes a January outcome uncertain.
