Overview

  • The program will launch before year-end with an initial €1 million, led by a manager and municipal technical staff.
  • Barcelona will double its annual contribution to UNRWA from €200,000 to €400,000 to bolster food, medicines and operational capacity.
  • Municipal experts will work on urban planning, health, education and social services alongside Palestinian counterparts, with two-way training and staff exchanges.
  • Plans under study include opening a local office in Palestinian territory or Jordan to maintain proximity to projects.
  • The initiative follows the city’s 1995 ‘District Sarajevo’ model, using a dedicated municipal structure to sustain city-to-city support and future reconstruction efforts.
