Barcelona Province Logs 108 Summer Wildfires as Diputación Credits Prevention Overhaul

Officials credit a prevention-first approach for keeping most incidents small.

Overview

  • Between June 18 and August 31, the province recorded 108 fires that burned 211.88 hectares, with 44.6% in arboled forest, 37.5% in agricultural land and 18% in scrub.
  • Impact concentrated in Anoia (132.7 ha), followed by Bages (about 33.6 ha), Vallès Occidental (about 23 ha) and Baix Llobregat (16.8 ha).
  • The revamped PVI deployed 96 professionals, 37 mobile units and five fixed towers with 24/7 technological surveillance, directly informing 56,544 people.
