• Following notification of ‘positive’ expanded DNA results, the Barcelona Provincial Prosecutor asked the Sabadell court to summon one person previously investigated in the case.
• The prosecutor also requested reopening proceedings for a suspect whose case had been archived to obtain a genetic profile comparison, which La Vanguardia identifies as Ana Echaguibel.
• La Vanguardia reports the Police Scientific Unit detected DNA consistent with Santiago Laiglesia on the victim’s jersey and a female profile that does not match Montserrat Careta.
• In June the investigating judge directed police to locate preserved samples from Careta, whose biological material was retained by the National Institute of Toxicology after her 2002 death in custody.
