Barcelona Prosecutor Admits UB Complaint Against Ramón Flecha, Sends Case to New Sexual Violence Unit

Prosecutors will review the university’s dossier after the Reyes holiday to decide whether to open formal investigative proceedings.

Overview

  • The Barcelona Prosecutor’s Office has taken up the University of Barcelona’s complaint and referred the file to a newly created section focused on sexual violence.
  • The internal UB commission recorded testimony from 16 alleged victims who described coercive sexual and psychological conduct, maltreatment, exploitation, and intimidation within CREA.
  • UB has opened disciplinary proceedings, suspended two faculty members, revoked an honorary title from a retired professor, and pledged to act as a private prosecutor if a criminal case moves forward.
  • CREA, the research community founded by Flecha, announced its immediate dissolution one day after the rector’s resolution.
  • Previous complaints in 2004 and 2016 were archived by prosecutors, and Flecha and CREA leadership have denied the allegations.
