Barcelona Opens Gaudí ‘Ghost’ Metro Station to Visitors as TMB Adds 1,000 More Slots

A website crash from millions of access attempts prompted a switch to a multi-day registration lottery.

Overview

  • The first guided visits to Gaudí run this weekend, with more on October 25–26, after the initial 700–720 passes sold out on September 9 as part of roughly 5,000 centenary slots.
  • TMB will release 1,000 additional places across three extra weekends before year-end, using an open registration window followed by a lottery that allows each winner to bring a companion.
  • Built in 1968 but never opened due to economic, planning and proximity reasons, Gaudí sits under Avinguda Gaudí between Sagrada Família and Sant Pau/Dos de Maig on Line 5.
  • Line 5 service continues uninterrupted as 20‑minute tours host 360 visitors this weekend, with platform screens, dimmed lighting and a brief exhibition on the metro’s centenary.
  • Visits to the former Correos station are also offered on select nights in October and November because access requires walking the track with the system stopped, and those slots have sold out.
