Barcelona Names Torre Avenir as First Permanent Home for Catalan Film Academy

A publicly funded rehabilitation is scheduled to start in September, with opening targeted for late 2027.

Overview

  • Officials confirmed the cession of Torre Avenir, part of the Muñoz Ramonet estate in Sarrià managed by the Julio Muñoz Ramonet Foundation, as the Academy’s new headquarters at Avenir 26–28.
  • Rehabilitation works are planned to begin in September 2026 and to run for about a year, with inauguration expected in the second half of 2027.
  • The budget is estimated at roughly €2.8–3 million, with contributions detailed as €1 million from the Barcelona City Council, €1 million from the Catalan Government and €800,000 from the foundation.
  • The site is designed as a public cultural hub featuring offices, a small auditorium, a bar, training activities, roundtables and film screenings, including outdoor sessions in the gardens.
  • The move ends 18 years in a small SGAE space as officials cast the new base as recognition of a growing sector that represents about 3% of Catalonia’s GDP, €8.636 billion in recent turnover and 41,866 jobs.
