Barcelona Names Gustavo Gili Building the Casa de la Arquitectura, Sets 10-Month 2026 Program

The Mies van der Rohe Foundation will run the new hub, opening Feb. 12 with an 84 m² city model to inform planning through 2035.

Overview

  • City officials unveiled a Feb. 12–Dec. 13 calendar featuring about 1,500 multidisciplinary activities across all ten districts, built from proposals by roughly 170 local entities.
  • The official Barcelona model, measuring 12 by 9.8 meters, will be installed in the Casa de la Arquitectura as a permanent tool to visualize current conditions and future scenarios.
  • The program’s peak coincides with the UIA World Congress of Architects from June 28 to July 2, with Barcelona returning as host after first staging the event in 1996.
  • Planned legacies include the permanent Casa de la Arquitectura, the Plan de Barcelona 2026–2035 model, and rehabilitation of ten median walls with measures such as photovoltaic panels and vertical gardens.
  • Each district will host a dedicated seat for the Capital, and the schedule will align with major civic and cultural events including Llum BCN, Sant Jordi, the Grec festival, La Mercè, the Tour de France stages and the Goya awards.
