Overview

• Collboni travels to Istanbul from 27 to 29 August with Eurocities to show solidarity with citizens of the city as İmamoğlu remains detained since March, a confinement described in coverage as politically driven.
• He is scheduled to meet acting mayor Nuri Aslan at city hall and to take part in presenting a Special Prize for Democracy to the imprisoned Istanbul leader.
• The program includes a joint press conference and a public appearance outside Silivri prison with European and Turkish city leaders, including B40 president and Sofia mayor Vassil Terziev.
• Participants named in the delegation include the mayors of Athens, Budapest, Sofia, Timişoara, Utrecht and Zagreb, along with a deputy mayor from Paris.
