Barcelona launches €4.5 m tender to extend L3 metro to future Clínic health campus

The tender kicks off the drafting phase for a two-stop L3 extension, marking the first public works contract for the €1.7 billion Clínic campus

Overview

  • The Generalitat’s tender commits €4.5 million and a 12-month timeframe to update plans for extending the L3 metro from Zona Universitària to Esplugues Centre and Sant Joan de Déu-Finestrelles.
  • Consorcio Porta Diagonal – Campus Clínic has formally approved its statutes and will oversee governance, procurement and technical coordination of the project.
  • A functional plan for the Campus de Salut is set to be tendered in the second half of 2025, with the urban master plan process slated to run through 2027.
  • An international architectural competition will draw on four concept designs developed by master’s students in Hospital Architecture at UB and UPC.
  • The €1.7 billion Campus de Salut Clínic on Diagonal avenue will cover about 300,000 m², integrating a horizontal Hospital Clínic, UB’s Faculty of Medicine and new research facilities for a 2035 opening.
