Blocked access to Gaza is the focus of his trip, with the mayor highlighting UNRWA’s relief bottleneck rather than the diplomatic dispute.

Overview

  • Barcelona will raise its annual contribution to UNRWA from €200,000 to €400,000 to buy medicines and food and to support health services for children with disabilities in Gaza.
  • Speaking at UNRWA warehouses in Amman, Jaume Collboni said the Israeli decision to bar his entry was “anecdótico” and that the urgent issue is getting aid into the strip.
  • UNRWA reports roughly 6,000 truckloads of relief are staged near Jordan but cannot enter Gaza, with warehouses filled with food, medicine, tents and hygiene supplies.
  • The Israeli veto derailed the first leg of Collboni’s itinerary to Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ramallah, so he proceeded in Jordan, visiting logistics hubs and meeting local officials.
  • UNRWA describes a triple crisis of denied access to Gaza, major donor withdrawals since 2024 and severe security risks, reporting about 160 staff deaths.
