Overview

  • On May 29 the city council allocated €1.06 million to begin expropriating the Antic Teatre premises at Calle Verdaguer i Callís, 12 in Ciutat Vella
  • The expropriation focuses exclusively on the main hall, mezzanine, courtyard and access building to secure them as municipal cultural infrastructure under heritage protection
  • Antic Teatre welcomed the move as vital for preserving public use but warned it could sever the space from its autonomous artistic programme
  • In a June 2 statement the theatre insisted on explicit acknowledgment of its political and cultural contributions accumulated over more than two decades
  • The company also insists on direct and binding participation in defining future management and programming to guarantee project continuity
