Overview
- Four new stations—La Sagrera TAV, La Sagrera, Plaça de Maragall, and Guinardó–Hospital de Sant Pau—are set to open by the end of 2027.
- The tunnel boring machine, paused for a 14-month upgrade, will resume work this autumn to complete the remaining 1.6 km stretch by late 2026.
- The L9 Nord extension is expected to add 200,000 daily riders, contributing to an annual ridership increase from 27 million to 113 million when fully operational.
- Once completed, the L9/L10 metro lines are projected to reduce road traffic by over 8,000 vehicles daily, cutting CO2 emissions by 5,100 tons annually.
- Despite progress, the full L9 connection, originally planned for 2012, is now anticipated to be completed after 2030.
