Overview
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the completed Barapullah Phase‑3 corridor on Tuesday, September 29, opening the stretch to the public as part of a four‑project road package.
- The new 3.5–5 km Phase‑3 section connects Mayur Vihar Phase I to Sarai Kale Khan and merges with the existing Barapullah road to form roughly a 9 km signal‑free corridor toward AIIMS.
- Officials estimate the corridor could reduce travel time from Noida and East Delhi to the AIIMS area from about 35–40 minutes to roughly 15 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
- The project includes a dedicated cycle track, pedestrian paths and an extradosed bridge over the Yamuna with long spans to limit river interference; the work finished after years of delays and a revised cost of about ₹1,635 crore.
- The opening was bundled with the Mukarba Chowk underpass and foundation work for two south Delhi flyovers worth a combined ₹1,941 crore and comes while a Delhi Anti‑Corruption Branch inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Barapullah project remains under investigation.
